As we write this, we’re finally finding a little time to catch our breath after what has been one of our busiest summers yet.
From beautiful countryside weddings and private celebrations to major sporting events, festivals and everything in between, our fleet of luxury shepherd’s hut washrooms has been travelling the length and breadth of the UK with our small, dedicated team.
And this year, they’ve travelled even further.
We’ve taken Nomadic washrooms across to Europe for a number of private events, which has been a real milestone for us. The fact that clients are choosing to take our washrooms hundreds of miles across international borders rather than sourcing facilities closer to their event is something we’re incredibly proud of. For us, it’s a real testament not only to the product we’ve created, but to the service and attention to detail that goes with it.
That’s one of the things we love most about Nomadic Washrooms. No two events are the same, and every week seems to bring a new venue, a new location and a new challenge.
Our summer calendar has taken us from some of the most beautiful wedding venues in the country to some of the UK’s biggest events.
One of the highlights was Silverstone, where our washrooms were part of the huge buzz surrounding the racing. It’s always exciting to see our shepherd’s huts in a completely different environment and to know they’re helping provide comfortable, beautifully presented facilities at one of the country’s most iconic sporting venues.
We also made the journey north to Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a completely bespoke shower unit we had designed and built in our Welshpool workshop for a pop-up sauna company.
Seeing a unit go from an idea and a set of requirements in the workshop to being used by customers in the middle of Edinburgh during festival season was particularly rewarding. It was also another great example of just how versatile the shepherd’s hut concept can be.
And of course, there have been plenty of weddings along the way — from intimate celebrations in private gardens and fields to large marquee weddings and spectacular country estates.
We’ve also been putting The Shepherd’s Stalls to work!
The Shepherd’s Stalls are our modular luxury washroom system, designed specifically for large-footfall events where a shepherd’s hut alone isn’t quite enough.
They give us the flexibility to create much larger washroom facilities while retaining the attention to detail, quality and style our customers expect from Nomadic.
We particularly love seeing them incorporated into beautiful marquee weddings, where the facilities can become part of the overall event rather than something that needs to be hidden away.
Meanwhile, our workshop has been busier than ever.
While much of what we do during the summer is very visible out on the road, there is another side to Nomadic that has been growing rapidly behind the scenes.
Our Welshpool workshop has been busy designing and building bespoke shepherd’s hut washrooms, shower units and other facilities for customers across the UK.
So far this year, we’ve produced custom-built units for campsites and glamping businesses, permanent wedding venues, sporting estates and hospitality operators, alongside more unusual one-off projects such as the shower unit that made its way to Edinburgh.
One of the things we really enjoy about this side of the business is that every project starts with a slightly different brief. Sometimes a customer needs a permanent luxury washroom solution for a wedding venue; sometimes it’s showers for a campsite or estate; and sometimes it’s something we haven’t built before at all.
Being able to design, manufacture and deliver these units ourselves means we can adapt the concept around the site and the customer rather than expecting the customer to adapt around an off-the-shelf product.
It’s an area of Nomadic that we’re particularly excited about, and one we expect to see continue to grow over the coming years.
Behind every event is a huge amount of work.
While our customers see the finished result, there is a huge amount of work that happens behind the scenes to get each washroom there.
Our drivers have spent the summer covering thousands of miles, delivering, setting up and collecting units across the UK and beyond.
Every trailer has to be checked, cleaned, serviced and prepared before it heads out again, and our yard and workshop teams work incredibly hard to make sure everything is right before a unit arrives at its next event.
Sometimes that means early starts, long drives and working through weekends, but seeing the washrooms set up and looking fantastic at an event makes it all worthwhile.
One of the things we’ve learned over the years is that our customers aren’t simply hiring our shepherd’s huts. They want their whole event to feel special.
Every detail matters.
Whatever the event, so much time goes into choosing the venue, flowers, food, furniture and styling, so it makes sense that our customers don’t want a row of ordinary portable toilets taking away from the atmosphere they’ve worked so hard to create.
Our shepherd’s hut washrooms were originally created because we couldn’t find the sort of luxury facilities we wanted for our own wedding back in 2018.
What started as a solution for our own wedding has grown into a business that now allows us to be part of hundreds of special occasions and events, from weddings in fields and private gardens to major sporting events, festivals and celebrations across the UK and Europe.
We’re incredibly proud of that.
And it hasn’t just been a busy year on the road — Nomadic has been growing too.
This year has also marked another important stage in the growth of Nomadic Washrooms.
Earlier in the year, we acquired the washroom fleet and order book of Rustic Restrooms, adding seven more luxury washroom trailers to our own hire fleet. It was a significant investment for us and has given us additional capacity at exactly the right time, allowing us to support more events and customers while continuing to grow our national coverage.
Our franchise network has been growing too.
We welcomed our new Somerset franchise this year, extending the Nomadic network further into the South West, while our established franchise operations covering Leeds and Yorkshire, Kent and Essex have continued to develop and expand.
For us, the franchise network has always been about more than simply putting more washrooms on the road. It’s about working with great local operators who understand their areas and can deliver the same quality of product, presentation and customer service that Nomadic has been built around.
Combined with our own bases, growing hire fleet and increasingly busy workshop, it means we’re able to serve more of the country while still retaining the personal approach that has been such an important part of the business from the beginning.
Although the summer has been exceptionally busy, we’re already looking towards what’s next.
Our autumn and winter bookings are coming together, while we’re already planning well ahead for weddings, festivals and events in 2027, 2028 and beyond.
We’re continuing to develop both sides of Nomadic too — expanding our hire offering and franchise network while designing and building completely individual shepherd’s huts and facilities for customers looking for permanent luxury washrooms and showers at wedding venues, campsites, glamping sites, retreats, sporting estates and other hospitality settings.
We’re also continuing to develop new ideas, including wood-fired shepherd’s hut saunas, alongside the bespoke projects that increasingly find their way through our workshop doors.
From the first washroom we had built following our own wedding to seeing Nomadic units travelling across the UK and into Europe, it has been quite a journey.
It’s an exciting time for Nomadic Washrooms, and we’re incredibly grateful to our customers, suppliers, franchise partners and, most importantly, our team who keep everything moving during the busiest months of the year.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of another brilliant summer.
Now, onto the next one.
