Full Name & Job Role:
Kate Richards – Joint Managing Director
Job Description
Stu and I founded Nomadic Washrooms back in 2019, starting with just one Shepherds Hut Washroom and a big dream. After navigating the challenges of the pandemic, I was able to take the leap and go full-time with the business in 2020.
Since then, my role has evolved alongside the company’s growth. I now oversee our franchise network across the UK, supporting our yards and managing relationships with larger clients, including wedding planners and event managers. I love the variety this brings – it keeps me connected to the quoting process and the pulse of the industry.
Outside of the busy event season, I’m mostly based in our Welshpool office, but come summer, you’ll find me out on the road with the team – delivering and collecting trailers, setting up, cleaning, and de-rigging. I like to keep my hand in and believe in leading from the front, being able to turn my hand to anything.
Hobbies/What You Enjoy Doing Outside of Work:
You may have guessed from the name of the business, but my true passion lies in exploring the world and embracing the incredible experiences that come with it. I’m a huge lover of the outdoors – especially walking, hiking, and mountaineering- and I’ve been fortunate enough to trek through some truly breath-taking landscapes, including Mt. Toubkal, Kilimanjaro, and Everest Base Camp.
Later this year, I’m embarking on one of my biggest adventures yet: an extended expedition to summit Ojos del Salado in Chile, followed by Mount Aconcagua in Argentina – one of the legendary Seven Summits.
When I’m not scaling mountains, I’m also a keen singer and often get called upon for family and friends weddings and celebrations!
What You Enjoy About Working at Nomadic Washrooms:
First and foremost, our incredible Nomadic Washroom team – they truly feel like extended family. We all pitch in wherever needed, especially during the manic summer season, which is full-on to say the least! With yards now established across the UK, I love visiting each one to offer support and guidance where needed.
The nature of our work takes me to an amazing, diverse range of locations, where I get to meet wedding and party planners, event coordinators, and fellow suppliers – many of whom I have formed some brilliant relationships with over time. It’s so much fun to watch a blank canvas transform into the backdrop for unforgettable celebrations – and it’s a privilege that we get to play a part in bringing that vision and magic to life!
Before launching into this world, I worked as a veterinary nurse, and my love for animals is still very much part of my life. One of the perks of this flexible role is being able to bring along our little dog, Oaka, who’s become a bit of a Nomadic mascot on the road and out at events!
